katie, matt & elvis
Beano's Cabin, Beaver Creek
I had the pleasure of meeting Katie and Matt in Chicago to discuss their wedding plans. I don't know if I've ever met such a hysterically funny and sweet couple. They had been a couple for many years and it was finally time to tie the knot and throw that big party for their families and friends. Soon they came to Colorado to start their wedding planning. Initially they thought they'd like to hold the event in a ballroom, to allow for greater guest numbers, but the minute we stepped out of the car into the meadow outside of Beano's Cabin on Beaver Creek Mountain, Katie knew this was the right location for their celebration.
As a lighthearted nod to honor Katie's parents we hired an Elvis impersonator to serenade the newlywed couple for their recessional down the aisle. This was a surprise to everyone, even the groom, and his appearance on the deck was met with laughter and delight. The local bluegrass group "Meadow Mountain" played both the ceremony and cocktail hour out on the deck, and then guests were invited into the cabin for dinner. Dancing was held out in a tent on the lawn with tunes from my favorite band, Funkiphino.
